A critical part of moving a concept to a business is developing a compelling narrative and financial picture. People then see the vision and its potential to pay dividends.

I have been a part of teams at Westinghouse, Siemens and Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI) that did that.

Highlighting the work at WEDI the initial financial picture demonstrated that a community business incubator was viable as a sustainable entity allowing the raising of funds and the start-up of the West Side Bazaar.

With the success of the initial startup, the picture was expanded resulting in winning a large competitive grant for moving to larger quarters and installing a commercial kitchen.

As the financial realities become clearer, one or two dimensions take on critical importance. These issues point to potential further clarification making the case more solid.
